Peyote

Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) is a small, spineless cactus that contains psychoactive alkaloids, particularly mescaline. [2] Peyote is a Spanish term derived from the Nahuatl peytl, which means “caterpillar cocoon” and is derived from the root peyni, which means “to gleam.” Peyote is a plant that grows throughout Mexico and southwestern Texas. It is mostly found amid scrub in the Sierra Madre Occidental, the Chihuahuan Desert, and the states of Nayarit, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosi. It blooms from March through May, and occasionally until September. The blooms are pink, and the anthers are thigmotactic (like Opuntia).
